About Me

Brought up in Lancashire - used to attend the GN until moved away in 1974. Interested in Pendle Lady (GS 1959 and GN 1960) as knew her trainer. Interesting story - he picked her up for peanuts in Ireland, as unmanageable. She was brought down at Bechers 2nd time round in the GN, broke her neck (yes, I have seen the x-rays!) - fortunately spinal cord not severed; trainer refused to have her put down and she was taken home, recovered, retired to the paddocks and produced several good horses, most notable of which was Avonduet who won six races back to back in the 70s and then sadly broke a leg and was euthanased. For most of his races he was partnered by Michael Dickinson. Pendle Lady died of natural causes at the grand old age of 24.
